The European football season reaches its climax
this month, with two big showpiece finals. On 7th
May, the UEFA Cup final between Middlesbrough and
Sevilla will be played in Eindhoven, Holland, followed
a week later with Arsenal and Barcelona contesting
the Champions League final at the Stade de France
in Paris on 17th May. Arsenal is the first ever
London side to reach the final, while it's Barcelona's
first appearance in European club football's biggest
showpiece for 12 years.
While there's always a definitive start and end
to each European football season, the same can't
be said for cricket, which has become a global,
year-round sport. This month for example, New Zealand
continues its Test tour of South Africa; Zimbabwe
and India are in the Caribbean for a one-day series
against the West Indies; and Sri Lanka begins its
tour of England with the opening Test at Lords on
11th May, with the second Test at Edgbaston starting
on the 25th.
May's an unusually busy month on the Formula 1 circuit.
There are back-to-back Grand Prix at Nurburgring
and Barcelona on 7th and 12th May, before one of
the genuinely great events on the annual sports
calendar - the Monaco Grand Prix on 28th May. Fans
of MotoGP will have much to enjoy too, with races
in Shanghai on 14th and Le Mans on the 21st May.
